SUPER FIRE CONVOY (C-001) |

(Version2 of box located at bottom of page)
Welcome to my first toy in the Transformers
Car Robot series released by TAKARA. This is Super Fire Convoy (SFC) displayed above
boxed (14.5" x 4.5" x 6.5") and in vehicle mode.
VEHICLE MODE: In this
mode he is a big red Fire Truck with with chrome wheels, rubber tires, blue-tinted
windshield, and gray ladder. This is also a "light & sound" vehicle
with a total of 5 different sounds which accompany the flashing lights. The first
sound you hear when the button on top of the cab is depressed is a single siren. The
second is a triple siren. The third is SFC screaming "FIRE!" with blast
noises following. The fourth is SFC saying "Cybertron
Warriors...Transform" (in Japanese). And the last is him yelling
"Monstrous Assembly Super Fire Convoy!" (in Japanese).
Very nice detail in my opinion and I forgot to
mention that "CYBERTRON" is printed on the left side of the cab with Japanese
characters stating "Fire Ministry".
(Thanks to Giedi Prime for
above translations) |

The photo above shows the four missiles which
can fire simultaneously with a push of a button. And finally there are two nozzles
at the end of the ladder (just above the cab in this photo) which whip out at the push of
a button.
Overall it's an nice toy with it's rotating
ladder, firing missiles, lights & sound, and smooth "roll" and any surface. |
|
| BASE MODE:
I believe this is a Trans-Repair Base although it looks like a Radar. This is
a very simple transformation; separate the Fire Truck, rotate the rear wheels in to create
the base, attach the arm cannon platforms and shoulder pads to each side, raise the
ladder, flip open the rails to create a rack and flip/extend the nozzles at the top with a
push of a button. There you have it!
This base
stands to about 14 inches tall. There are two rotating cannons (one on each side) in
addition to the "hands" which represent additional fire power as well as the
"antennas" on SFC's head located on the base. |

|
| ROBOT MODE:
When you have the above Base Mode configured Fire Convoy can also be transformed
with the remaining pieces. He is known as "Fire Commander: Fire Convoy" in
this mode. The legs fold out from under the cab as well as the feet. The top
of the cab now forms his back. The shoulders rotate outward and arms are
extended. When you push the legs and pelvis upward through the torso, Convoy's head
will pop out. A pistol is his only weapon in this mode and fits snug into his
fist. This is a fairly nice looking robot with metallic colors on his torso as well
as his head. Articulation is excellent with movable joints at the ankles, knees,
hips, waist, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and head.
The
second Robot Mode will take parts from the Base Mode. The rear wheels (or base in
Base Mode) can be attached to his shoulders creating "TransMine" which I'm sure
I mistranslated from the box. It appears to be extra weapon canisters or possibly a
jet pack or some sort. Then there's the "TransKnuckle" which can be a
right or left knuckle depending upon which side of the base you removed the piece from.
Now that you've transformed him into this mode you have to
set his stance just right or he'll topple over since he's a little top heavy with the
shoulder pads. Not too difficult to do this though :) |

| ROBOT MODE:
Now it's on to the best Robot configuration called Super Fire Convoy.
The "TransKnuckles" from the previous robot mode attach to
each forearm creating a bulkier look with the protruding arm cannons. The shoulders
are extended from it's joint and pads attached giving him a wider look. You need to
pull down the legs from the torso so that Convoy's head is tucked nicely into it's body.
This allows you to attach the ladder to the back/front/top creating a huge cannon,
the SFC's head, torso, and pelvic guard.
The feet are formed by using the rear wheels/base and
opening a flap on top and inserting the feet. Another flap connects to the front
making it a secure connection.
Finally, the pistol can attach to SFC's shoulder (to the
immediate left-side of his head) so that no piece is left loose.
As you can see to the right, there are many colors
in this mode; silver, light & dark gray, red, yellow, and blue. Quite
impressive!!
The final photos show a close-up view of SFC's true
"Autobot" symbol. This has a flap which can be lifted to reveal a Matrix.
Well that about covers everything and I must say that this
will probably be the best of the Cybertron figures that TAKARA produces. I really
like everything about SFC and we'll see if TAKARA can top this Super Fire Convoy! |

| I don't recall when Takara
decided to change Super Fire Convoy's packaging from a windowed box to a "cereal
box", but it happened (possibly during the second run of SFC) and it could've been to
cut on costs. This package measures approximately 15.5"x10.5"x3.75"
and has two variations to display the box; horizontally, vertically. It all depends
upon what you prefer to display. The vertical side shows Super Fire Convoy in both
Robot & Vehicle modes. The horizontal side shows both modes with the addition of
Fire Convoy and Trans-Repair Base modes in the background. These are photos of the
actual toy and not CGI. One last thing, this version has Super Fire Convoy packaged
in Robot Mode. |
