 TRANSFORMERS: CAR ROBOT
Deluxe Cars (C-002/C-003/C-004)

WILDRIDE (C-002)

C-002 WildRide

The Deluxe Cars are truly incredible looking. Remember that this is coming from someone who does not own any true Transformers and I assume this is what they are supposed to really look like. This is the first vehicle in the Deluxe series called WildRide.

Each of the cars are packaged on a card which is glued together.  It's too bad that TAKARA couldn't keep the same process of a sliding bubble on card package used in the Microman line.  You can also find a tech-spec card depicting WildRide in robot mode on the front and data on the back.

VEHICLE MODE:
When you fist take a look at WildRide it appears to be diecast but it isn’t.  It’s made of plastic all around.  The appearance of WildRide is of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).  This vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz ML320 SUV as identified by Spencer Orbell (Thanks!).  It is a nicely detailed SUV.  The color scheme is silver that fades to blue towards the rear of the vehicle.  The lower portion of the body is a metallic green with black trim.  The step-sides are chrome as well as the bumper guard in the front.  The rear has a tire rack with a metallic green housing.   There is a simulated sunroof covering and all of the windows are clear plastic.   If you look inside you can see WildRide’s robot parts.  What’s funny is that the robot’s head is on the drivers side (Japan) which looks like a helmeted driver actually at the controls of this vehicle but sitting quite low in the seat.   There are clear plastic parts representing the headlights as well as the taillights.  There are also chrome plastic rims and rubber tires, which has the word "TRANSFORMERS ™" written on them.

This vehicle has a smooth roll to it, which would make any kid happy.  I think my vehicle needs a front-end alignment since it veers to the right. :)

ROBOT MODE:
Transforming WildRide is quite easy although it may take a little elbow grease at first since the joints are tight.  But once you’ve transformed him a few times it gets a bit easier.  First step is to remove the chrome step sides and bumper.  Then open the doors and separate or stretch out the front from the rear.   The rear of the vehicle forms the legs and the front houses the torso, chest, and arms.  Fold in the rear wheels and extend the tire rack that now forms the toes providing more stability when standing.  Extend the arms, rotate the head and now a robot is visible.  Attach the chrome side step to his right arm.  This acts as a firing missile that is ejected with the push of a button.  The other step side connects to his right shoulder that is a reserve weapon.  This can also be fired from the right hand and appears to be a bladed weapon.  The left arm is formed by the front-end of the vehicle.  The right-front tire folds in and a left hand is revealed.   You attach the chrome bumper piece to his fist and fold over his thumb to "grip" the weapon that acts as a sickle or bladed weapon of some sort.  The roof of the vehicle rotates downward and the doors sort of represent shoulder/arm pads.   This is kind of funny looking in my opinion.

The robot head is quite detailed with gold chromed eyes with silver/red paint over his forehead and mouth. The torso is decorated with silver, red, black, and a touch of puke green.  This sort of reminds me of the MagneTitans in the Microman line.  Other colors include light and dark gray.

The Autobot symbol is located underneath the vehicle or left forearm in robot mode.

Overall it looks like a junkyard.  The lower appendages are quite bulky but provide good stability.  It is well proportioned from the knees up.  I like the color scheme and the left-hand configuration.  I think the doors need to be remove and possibly attached to the back to create a jet pack or wing.  As I mentioned before, it looks like a MageTitan for the TRANSFORMERS line.  But then again I haven’t seen past TF figures for comparison.
