 TRANSFORMERS: CAR ROBOT

GASKUNK (D-002)

D-002 Gaskunk

Gaskunk is the first of the Metals Beasts.  This figure is a re-paint of Hasbro’s Transmetals2 Stinkbomb but is called a Mecha Skunk as written on the packaging.

The above photo shows Gaskunk in Beast Mode.  He is called a mecha skunk.

BEAST MODE:  Gaskunk’s color scheme is black, yellow-orange, and silver.  His claws are silver and from the top of his head to his rear is a silver streak.  His forearms, Spark Crystal cover, and his tail’s claw is yellow-orange with painted yellow parts on his back red painted parts on its spine.  The tail has orange-chrome, black, and silver-chrome.  The tail looks like a serrated blade and is connected with a swivel and ball-in-socket joint which gives it unlimited movement.  He has a fixed jaw in a snarl with silver fangs and his eyes are painted red.  And finally silver-chrome parts at the hip joints give it a mechanical look.

There are 15 points of articulation in this mode with mostly ball-in-socket and some swivel joints.  Gaskunk’s weapon is his tail that is a blade as stated above with a claw-like piece at the tip for spiking and gripping its enemy.  On his left hind leg is his purplish Spark Crystal that has a yellow-orange cover connected to his leg with a swivel joint.  He has the same cover on the right hind leg but underneath it is some sort of black mechanical hemisphere.

ROBOT MODE:  To transform Gaskunk to robot mode is simple.  The skunk’s head fold down and back shell is flipped upward.   The tail that is connected to the robot head is lifted up so you can tuck the beasts’ head in its belly.  Once its tucked away you flip the robot head downward until it snaps into place.  The beast’s hind legs become the forearms in robot mode with his forearms folding out and claws folding it.  The sliver chrome parts mentioned above (at its hind joints) twist upward which now look like exhaust pipes.   The front legs of the beast now become the legs of the robot which need to be extended, rotated at the hips, and feet realigned so that the claws face forward.   The robot head is also rotated and now transformation is complete.

There are a total of 21 points of articulation in this mode.  The tight joints and wide feet/claws give it a sturdy stance and good balance.  The tail that is now connected to the robot head has the same function as in beast mode.  It is a "Jacktail" or something like a jackknife weapon but sort of looks like a huge feather sticking out of his helmet.  He has a unique looking head that has a bright red colored mask and blue eyes.  His teeth are painted silver and Gaskunk appears to be snarling at you.

Both modes are quite simple to transform and I really like the color scheme.   Robot mode looks better in my opinion.

Note: These TM2 repaints were Maximals (heroes) in Hasbro's lineup but are now Destrongers (evil) in the Takara's lineup.
