 TRANSFORMERS: CAR ROBOT

BALDIGUS (D-011)

There are 5 components that make up Baldigus; Grigiber, Danger, Shuttler, Hepter, and Dolrailer.  These figures, known as "Combatrons" are re-paints of the original "Combaticons" that combine into "Bruticus" released in 1986.  Takara used these molds and brought them in with the Destrongers of the Car Robot line.  Various magazines identify the 5 components with the letter "C" preceding their names which is the acronym for "Combat", hence Combatrons.  Many changes from the past are new colors, stickers & names. Let’s start off with Grigiber.

Each figure is packaged on a bubble card that includes a tech spec card, instruction sheet, but no individual sticker sheet.  All stickers have been applied at the factory.

Baldigus' boxed set measures 10"x13.5"x2.25" in size.   There are two different ways to display this box; lengthwise or height wise.   And this depends on what photo you prefer to view.

I don't plan on describing the transformation of Combatrons to Baldigus since I've pretty much explained this for each figure.  I will say that this re-painted "Bruticus" is much better looking than that of the past.

Baldigus' chest piece has a pre-applied Gold sticker with the inverted Autobot symbol in the center.  The photo on the right shows Baldigus with the Dol Laser Rifle in his left hand and the BalBuster-1 in his right.  This is created using weapon parts from Hepter, Grijiber, and Danger.

Baldigus has very limited movement.  His shoulders can rotate up or down (locking joints) and outward somewhat.  He can rotate his head from side to side and that's about it.  He doesn't even have any real movement in the lower-half of his body.

I guess this is so that there's some sort of support for the rest of his body.  I've transformed him quite a few times and his joints are getting a bit loose.  So you can imagine me trying to raise his arms and the chest piece flies off since the entire shoulder moves and not just the joint.  And now he's beginning to lean to the rear since his knee joints are also loose.  I guess I'll leave him be for awhile or I'll just end up with a pile of parts!

Here's a close up photo of Baldigus' head with his Orange painted eyes and Silver painted mask.

Overall, this gestalt is not too bad.  The colors are decent, transformation is easy, poseability is limited, and lots of extra loose parts when Baldigus is transformed.  The individual modes of each Combatron hasn't really   disappointed me thus far.  And even with the minor flaws, I still like this G1 re-paint!
