 TRANSFORMERS: CAR ROBOT

DEVIL GIGATRON (D-013)

Devil Gigatron was released on the 11th of October simultaneously with the release of Brave Maximus.  He is packaged in the latest trend of windowless boxes that Takara has produced.  The box measures at 12"x9.5"x4" and can be displayed horizontally or vertically.  The photo above shows Devil Gigatron's actual figure whereas the back side shows him in an awesome CGI.  Both sides depict the 10 different modes which is 4 modes more than what was identified in the first release.  There are many different modes that imaginative collectors have created since Gigatron was released, but Takara has identified only 10.

Devil Gigatron has taken on a new color scheme which is mainly White and Black.  There are many parts that are Gold & Silver painted chrome with Red & Purple clear plastic parts.  Some of the Gold details on White plastic is appealing and I really like the new look.  There was much speculation as to what new features Gigatron would have or not have.  Many collectors are disappointed with him since he is not a new figure but rather a re-painted D-001 Gigatron.   I know there are completists who hate to spend money on a re-paint but have to have him, and those who waited for three months for a new Destronger only to be disappointed by a re-paint.  This "re-paint" tactic isn't new to collectors of Takara's toys.  Takara has done this in the past and most recently with the Microman line that is coming to an end.

Moving right along...here's a photo of Devil Gigatron's plastic mold which sustains him in Robot mode with accessories.

This close-up shot isn't the greatest photo but you get a an idea of the Gold & Silver plated parts of Devil Gigatron's head...still looking evil as ever.

I don't plan on describing all of the various modes since they have already been identified on the G-001 Gigatron page.  I'll just cover the 4 additional modes which are; DevilSaurer, DevilNodon, DevilElephant, and DevilCruiser.

DEVILSAURER:  DevilSaurer a winged-lizard or dinosaur.  I'll describe how to transform Gigtron from his DevilHand mode to DevilSaurer.

The first thing you want to do is remove the two weapons (swords) from the main body.  Fold the lever which is used to "close" the hand back into it's original place then straighten out the "fingers".  The "thumb" needs to be slid to the left and rotated 180 degrees at the first joint closest to the base of the thumb.  Now fold the entire thumb upward so that it is aligned with the fingers (fingers in one direction and thumb in the opposite).  The jaws of the two dragon heads should be opened as you would when transforming Gigatron's feet.  The chest piece should be opened up so that the two outer fingers (Gigatron's arms) are put back in their original shoulder joints, then lock the chest piece back into place.  Gigatron should now look like the letter "T".   Rotate the shoulder joints 180 degrees so that the shoulder pads are closest to the wings.  Then rotate the lower half of the arms 90 degrees so that the part with the Red & White "disc" is facing upward.  Fold the shoulders down to create the front legs of DevilSaurer and don't forget to raise the Red feet upward 90 degrees.   The hind legs are created by rotating them 180 degrees and folding them down 90 degrees at the knee joints.  You should be able to stand him on all four legs at this point.  Next step is to attach both swords together and attach it to the peg on the backside where his hind legs meet.  It should be attached in a way to form a tail.  The final step is to adjust and extend the wings.

DEVILNODON:  DevilNodon is based on the Pteranodon or winged dinosaur.

To transform from DevilSaurer to DevilNodon, start off with removing the "tail" or sword from its' peg.   Close the dragon mouths on both hind legs then rotate the "heads" 180 degrees.  Next step is to fold the joints on both wings so that they are horizontal.   Adjust both hind legs (at the hips) so that the dragon heads are tucked under the chest piece.  The front legs are rotated down to align with the wings are rotated 180 degrees at the "elbow" joint.  Move up to DevilSaurer's head and rotate it 180 degrees at the joint closest to the base.  You should be able to stand DevilNodon on it's legs (see photo) at this point.  Separate the sword creating two pieces and attach them to the pegs on the outer legs, then adjust the Gold finger-like claws that are located at the joint on the wings.

DEVILELEPHANT:  DevilElephant doesn't need any explanation.

To transform DevilNodon to DevilElephant, start off by removing the swords from the outer legs and close the finger-like claws at the top of the wings.   Rotate the front legs upward 45 degrees then adjust the lower legs to form the letter "L" (hip to knee should be aligned with the rest of the body).  Open the jaws at both of his feet as you would with DevilGigatron's robot mode.  Fold down the chest piece so that you can separate and fold down the upper arms.  Re-connect the chest piece then rotate the front legs (arms) forward.  Now it's time to work on the head.  Disconnect the neck piece so that you can flip up the wings.  There's another piece at the wing's joint that connects to the body which needs to be brought forward and locked into place.  The neck needs to be rotated 180 degrees and a "trunk" is now visible.  Connect the neck to the two slits located in the middle of the wings.  NOTE:  The two slits are the only modifications noted from the original Gigatron to this release of Devil Gigatron.   These slits allow for a better connection.  The original Gigatron can be transformed into DevilElephant mode but may disconnect from its joint (The slots were identified on Autobase Aichi's webpage).  The last two steps are connecting the swords to either side of the main body creating tusks and adjusting the wings ... make that ears.

DEVILCRUISER:  DevilCruiser is a water craft which was expected since Gigatron already had other vehicle modes to reign the Air (GigaJet) & Land (GigaFormula), and now the Sea with DevilCruiser.

To transform DevilElephant to DevilCruiser you have to remove both tusks and then disconnect the trunk/head from the two slits identified above.  Rotate the head 180 degrees so that the trunk is facing up.  Next, rotate the middle section and tip of the trunk so that all three sections are aligned.  Now the wings need to be rotated down 90 degrees and connected to the trunk (peg connection) which I'll now call the canopy.  Rotate the wings at the base hinge upward then the tips of the wings are folded downward 90 degrees.  The figure should look like a bird in flight at this point.  Now work on the legs by folding them down 90 degrees and rotating them at the knees 90 degrees.  Flip the figure over and work on the mid section which has the small arms (waist).  These arms need to be extended, rotated downward 90 degrees, extended upward, then tucked underneath the kneecaps.  Flip the figure over once again.  Now tuck the legs under the body at the kneecaps.  The thighs and shins should be parallel with eachother.  Rotate the feet 180 degrees and fold the toes/heels together.  Now work on the larger arms by rotating them downward 90 degrees towards the feet.  Adjust the feet (Red piece) so that they are perpendicular with the other set of legs.  Now rotate both arms at the shoulders 180 degrees.   Now attach the weapons to each side of the arms at the pegs above the Red parts (feet).  Flip the figure over and you're done!
