| Takara released re-colored Transformers
(SpyChangers) as part of the Jusco Campaign item identified in various magazines in Japan.
These figures haven't officially been released to the public on this date (August
8th, 2000) so I thought I'd display them for you as well as explain how I received
Art Fire & EagleKiller. I first saw these figures in this month's issue of Figure King and
had the caption translated as soon as I could. The set of re-colored SpyChangers
were to be released on an "unspecified" date at any participating Jusco
department store. The supplies would be limited and it would be first come first
serve. I decided to head out to Jusco and find out for myself when these figures
would be released, if they haven't already done so. I roamed around the toy section
hoping to see an advertisement that would maybe indicate an approximate week of release,
but I didn't find anything. I decided to go to the information desk since I knew
that English would be spoken there. I whipped out the clipping from my wallet and
proceeded to ask "where" and "when" will this special item will be
advertised or released. The information clerk made a few calls and within 10 minutes
a Jusco worker came down and looked over the clipping I provided. Not too long after
that, she indicated that she would be back immediately. Another 10 minutes have
passed and then she came running down with a little blue Jusco bag in her hand. The
Jusco worker and information desk clerk spoke to each other and then two black baggies
were pulled out of the Jusco bag. These were the same bags shown on the clipping.
I said, "that's it!". She put them back in the Jusco bag and said,
"presento". The information desk clerk apparently thought that I had
waited long enough and that a "presento for you time" was necessary. All I
really asked for was a specific date of release and wound up with two exclusive figures!
Before I accepted the gift, I asked for the date again. This time she said
the release date is "a secret". I politely said "I see",
accepted the "presento", bowed, thanked both of them many times, then walked
away.
Was this "presento" a kind gesture for just
waiting for an answer or was it a "here ya go...now run along and don't bother us
again". I think it was a combination of both but either way, I'm happy for the
time being. Now if I can only be so lucky to get the other four SpyChangers... :) |
| The noticeable difference from these cars and
the first run of SpyChangers is the clear-colored plastic. Not only are the figures
clear-colored, they are made up of many clear-colored parts...a sort of
"fruitful" appearance, like lifesavers or something similar. The
windshields are no longer black but rather silver which cover up the heat-sensitive
Autobot symbols.. The wheels have also transformed from black to clear-gray,
maintaining that clear-colored appearance. There
isn't anything special about the packaging; all black to hide what's inside and the
instructions imprinted on one side. It also has the Transformers: Car Robot and
Jusco logos as well as stating "Original SpyChanger". |
| Here are a few more photos for your viewing
pleasure. I won't go into any transformations since I've already explained this on
the first SpyChangers page. I hope you've enjoyed my little story as well as get a
closer look at my new finds! ***
UPDATE ***
In November 2000 I won an auction on e-Bay for a
CounterArrow Jusco exclusive. After corresponding with Li-Han Roy Soon in Singapore,
I found out that he had X-Car as well as Wars. I made an offer and before I knew it
I had all three figures including their black baggies in my mailbox :) I want to
thank Roy for his excellent correspondence and I must say that this was one of the
smoothest deals to date. He is definitely a "Highly Recommended"
e-Bayer! Thanks again Roy!!
Now it's time to find Ox to complete this set!!! |
